BJP today criticized UPA government for putting the blame for price rise on state governments. Briefing media persons in New Delhi today, party spokesman Mr Prakash Javdekar said that argument by the agriculture Minister Mr Sharad Pawar that states are not lifting wheat and rice stocks is misleading.

Mr Javdekar said that the cost being incurred by the state governments in lifting the grains is high and central government is not offering any subsidy to them. He said that the best way to tame inflation is by releasing enough food grains in open market through tendering system from buffer stock.

Emphasizing on the need to change the rules and regulation for stocks of food grains, the spokesman charged the government for failing in taking timely decision on imports and exports. The party also criticized the government for high exports of sugar last year calling it responsible for the current price rise.
