The Congress today charged the government with failing to check
increased number of incidents of communal violence across the country.
Initiating the discussion in the Lok Sabha, senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that more than 600 such incidents have been reported for the past three months. His remarks that some organisations associated with BJP, were instigating the people led to strong protest from treasury benches.
Mr. Kharge further alleged that attempts are being made with a view to polarising the people on
religious grounds. He said the numbers of such incidents are more in
the states which are going to polls. Yogi Aditya Nath of BJP countered the allegations, saying, it is the Congress which is spreading the menace of communalism under the garb of secularism.
Giving details, the BJP MP said, the number of incidents of communal violence were high in the Congress ruled states for last couple of years.
Trinamool leader Sudip Bandhopadhyaya stressed on common strategy to eradicate the menace from the country. He also urged the government to remain vigilant. The debate is continuing.
Rajesh Ranjan (RJD), Tariq Anwar, NCP, Mehbooba Mufti, PDP, A. Owaisi, of AIMIM were among other members who participated in the discussion. The discussion remained inconclusive.
