BJP committed to implement OROP

BJP today reiterated its commitment to One Rank, One Pension (OROP) scheme for ex-servicemen. Talking to AIR, party Secretary Shrikant Shrama said NDA government is taking some time to take a decision on the issue but it will be definitely implemented. He accused the Congress of playing politics on OROP and said the opposition party did not take any step on it during its 45 year rule. Mr. Sharma said that the OROP is an emotional issue for the BJP, not a political one.

Meanwhile, Congress today said Narendra Modi government has forgotten its commitment to ex-servicemen who committed their lives to the country. Briefing media in New Delhi, party spokesperson R P N Singh said agitation for OROP by ex-servicemen has entered 75 days today on the golden jubilee of 1965 war with Pakistan. He said Prime Minister Modi used OROP as an electoral tool to woo ex-servicemen and even 15 months after his coming to power, nothing has happened.

Mr Singh alleged that protesting ex servicemen at Jantar Mantar on OROP were removed by Delhi Police under orders from Home Ministry on the eve of Independence Day. He claimed that it was Congress which accepted OROP on 27 February last year.
