BJP captures Bangalore City Corporation
The Congress lost its control over the Bangalore City Corporation, with BJP winning 111 of the 198 seats. The Congress which held the citadel for more than four decade could get only 65 seats with Janatha Dal(S) fairing poorly with 15 seats. BJP can elect their own Mayor and Deputy Mayor for Bangalore municipality for the first time. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa announced that his government will spend Rs.22,500 crore for the development of the city in the next three years. He said city will be free from slums as necessary infrastructure will be provided to the slum dwellers.

He also added that ponds and water bodies in the city will be replenished and solutions evolved to reduce traffic congestion. He further said they will meet Railway Minister Mamatha Banerjee with a request to take up circular rail in the city for which State is ready to spend half the project cost. Enthused with the win, the BJP is now gearing up for the Panchayat election to be held this month end. Both Congress and JD(S) leaders have cited low percentage of voting and use of money and muscle power by BJP as reasons for their poor show in the civic election.
