BJP attacks Congress for criticizing PM's remarks on BJP's struggle in the past

BJP today hit out at Congress for criticizing Prime Minister's remarks on BJP's struggle in the past saying the opposition party's objection to Narendra Modi's comments is baseless.

The party said Mr. Modi did not intend to undermine the Congress' role in the freedom movement and he only talked about the BJP's struggle since the time of Jan Sangh.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister had said that BJP faced more adversities in independent India than the Congress during the British rule.

Briefing reporters in New Delhi, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said, it is a fact that RSS and BJP leaders had to face torture in Kerala, West Bengal, North East and other parts of the country in the past and Sangh was also banned many times. He wanted to know from the Congress is it not the fact that Jan Sangh founder Shyama Prasad Mukherjee scarified his life after the Independence and another party ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhya was killed. Mr. Prasad also wondered whether present day family centric Congress represents even an iota of grand old party of freedom movement . He termed the Congress' comments as malafide.

Earlier, Congress leader Anand Sharma had condemned Mr. Modi and said his remarks are factually incorrect and insult to the freedom fighters.
