The BJP has urged the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to bifurcate the Food Supply and Consumer Affairs from the Ministry of Agriculture. Talking to reporters outside Parliament, Senoir BJP leader Venkiah Naidu said there should be separate Cabinet Ministers for these departments. He said that this will facilitate more attention in strengthening the public distribution system as 40 percent of the People are under BPL category. He said that due to the lack of food storage facility in FCI, lakhs of tonnes of food grains are rotting.
