The BJP today announced Former Lok Sabha speaker P A Sangma's name for the post of President. Addressing a news conference in New Delhi today BJP leader Sushma Swaraj, however, maintained that two of the NDA allies including Janata Dal United, JDU, and Shiv Sena are not in favour of contesting the presidential elections but to go for a consensual candidate.
Tamilnadu Chief Minister Ms.J.Jayalalithaa has urged political parties to support P.A.Sangma's candidature for presidentship. Speaking to newsmen in Chennai today, Ms.Jayalalithaa said that there is no change in her party supporting Mr.Sangma. On the candidature of former President Dr.Abdul Kalaam, Ms.Jayalalithaa said that the decsion to support Mr.Sangma was already taken by her party. Ms.Jayalalithaa said that the Chief Minister of West Bengal Ms.Mamta Banerjee had sought her support for the former President to contest the election.

Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda has extended his party's support to Presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee. He said three Members of Parliament and 30 MLAs from his party will vote for Mukherjee.
