Rejecting Congress's claim that country's economy is in bad shape, the BJP alleged that the opposition party is making such remarks just to divert the attention from the Vijay Mallya issue.<br/><br/> Briefing reporters in New Delhi, party leader and Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, the Congress has been pushed to the wall over the issue and they have no answer.<br/><br/>She took a dig at former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's reply over the issue that all Prime Ministers and Ministers in any government receive such representations from industries, which are passed to appropriate authority. The Minister said, the question is whether Mallya was given any favour on his representation or not. <br/><br/>Earlier, the BJP had alleged that former Prime Minister and Finance Minister P Chidambaram helped the liquor baron to get bank loans. <br/><br/>Citing the data of different sectors, another party leader and Union Minister Piyush Goyal said, the NDA government has improved the economy and removed policy paralysis. He said, during the present government, India is an oasis of economic growth and stability.<br/><br/>He said, the country had GDP growth of 7.6 precent in 2015- 16 which is expected to be at 7.1 percent in 2016-17 unlike 4.74 percent in 2013- 14 when UPA was in power. Mr. Goyal said, Index of Industrial Production and Whole Sale Price Index Data also show that economy is in good shape.<br/><br/>Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu said, the government does not need any certificate from these people. He termed Dr Singh and Mr. Chidambaram as failed economists.
