BJP has demanded not to extend the mandate of the ambitious scheme of Unique Identification Number project without addressing national security concerns.

Party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters in New Delhi the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance had recently criticised the UID Bill as it gives in substance statutory status to the Unique Identification Number project Authority of India – UIDAI.

He said this means overlapping with the National Population Register, which is also engaged in collection of biometric data.
