BJP accuses opposition of conspiring to defame it over OROP issue

BJP has accused Opposition parties of conspiring to defame it ahead of the Assembly elections in some states by resorting to lies over the One Rank One Pension (OROP) issue. Party National Secretary Shrikant Sharma said in New Delhi that the Congress cheated ex-servicemen in the name of OROP during the 10 years of UPA rule while the Modi government fulfilled its commitment by implementing it after coming to power.

He said, the government had constituted a committee to look into certain anomalies following the OROP's implementation and it has submitted its report. In two months, he said, its recommendations will be executed.
Mr Sharma accused Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal of doing politics over the alleged suicide of an ex serviceman. He said, in 1973 it was Congress, which had cut the salary of Armed Forces and snatched away the OROP from them. He said, Congress has no moral right to talk about OROP.

Targeting Mr Kejriwal, he said he did nothing to deal with his numerous MLAs facing serious criminal charges but is now politicising a suicide case to target BJP.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi met the representatives of ex-servicemen yesterday and discussed their concerns. Talking to media after the meeting, Mr Gandhi criticised the Modi government for not fulfilling the promise of OROP.
