BJP today accused Congress of pursuing communal politics. BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told reporters in New Delhi that the Election Commission should take cognisance of Sonia Gandhi's reported appeal to Muslims that they should not let their votes split in Lok Sabha elections.
He said Sonia Gandhi had met a Muslim delegation led by Delhi Jama Masjid Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari yesterday. Javadekar said Bukhari quoted Gandhi as saying that Muslims' votes should not split. He said democracy is all about voters casting their votes independently according to their conscience and accused Mrs Gandhi of violating the Model Code of Conduct.
