BJP today accused the Congress governments of grabbing lakhs of acres of land without taking consent of farmers. Addressing a press conference, Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu said, Congress is saying they will not allow an inch of land to be acquired but they have taken 5 lakh 7 thousand acres in undivided Andhra Pradesh.<br/><br/>Mr Naidu said, Congress acquired farmers' land in Haryana, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and others Congress-ruled states, forcefully without paying adequate compensation and depriving them of livelihood and now it is claiming as well wisher of the farming community.<br/><br/>Rural Development Minister Choudhary Birender Singh said, Congress government acquired 80 thousand acres of land in Haryana without consent of farmers. He said, CBI is probing the irregularities in land acquisition by the former Congress-led Haryana government at throwaway prices from villagers in Gurgaon. Mr Singh demanded a CBI inquiry into land acquired during last 10 years in the state.<br/><br/>Congress has rejected the allegations of BJP that it had grabbed the land for industrialists without the consent of farmers. Talking to AIR, party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said instead of pointing fingers at Congress, the BJP should tell why so many farmers are committing suicide during its rule. Saying that present government is anti farmer, Mr Surjewala said, NDA government has closed its eyes on farmers' plight.
