Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has decided to support senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former Lok Sabha Speaker Mr PA Sangma as a candidate in the ensuing presidential election.
Odisha Chief Minister and BJD president Mr Naveen Patnaik on Thursday told media persons at Bhubaneswar that the 65-year-old prominent tribal leader from Meghalaya is the fittest candidate for the higest post for the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Mr. Patnaik said that he has already spoken to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo Ms J Jayalalithaa on the issue and she had also agreed to support Mr Sangam.

Meanwhile, the Odisha unit of NCP has decided to support Mr Sangma for the president's post.
The BJD has 14 Lok Sabha and 7 Rajya Sabha members, while it has 104 members in the Odisha Legislative Assembly. The NCP has 4 members in the state assembly
