BJD not to support Congress-led UPA: Naveen Patnaik

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik have said his party will not support the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre. The BJD, with 14 Lok Sabha members, has been keeping equidistance from the UPA and National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The party parted away from NDA just before the 2009 general elections and made seat arrangements with CPI, CPI (M) and NCP during polls. Media reports have recently quoted senior BJD leader and Rajya Sabha member Pyari Mohan Mohapatra as saying that the party could examine a proposal to extend support to the UPA in the wake of the DMK’s decision to pull out from the Cabinet. He, however, made it clear that no proposal had come from the UPA seeking BJD's support.
