BJD decides to support Insurance Amendment Bill in Rajya Sabha

The Biju Janata Dal, BJD, has decided to support the Insurance Amendment Bill in Rajya Sabha. The Bill is aimed at raising Foreign Direct Investment, FDI, in the Insurance Sector from the existing 26 per cent to 49 per cent. Spelling out his party's stand, the leader of BJD in Lok Sabha Bhartruhari Mahtab said that his party has decided to support the Bill along with the changes proposed by the government.

The BJD's decision coincides with strong indication that Congress ally NCP may also support the Bill. This will come as a respite to the government but should not necessarily guarantee the passage of the bill in the Rajya Sabha where NDA does not enjoy majority.
