Mar George Alancherry, Bishop of Thuckalay Diocese in Tamil Nadu, has been elected as the Major Archbishop of Syro Malabar Church. He was elected as the Major Archbishop by the Synod of the Church, held at its headquarters at Mount St Thomas at Kakkanad in Kochi. The announcement in this regard was made simultaneously in Kochi and Vatican on Thursday evening. Mar George Alancherry will take over as the Major Archbishop on Sunday afternoon at the St Mary's Basilica in Ernakulam.
