In Karnataka, an incident of bird flu is reported from the Central Poultry Development Organisation in Hessarghatta near Bangalore. The department of Animal Husbandry has sounded red alert and quarantined the research centre.The Minister for Animal Husbandry Mr. Revu Naik Belamagi said that High Security Animal Disease laboratory in Bhopal has confirmed that the death of more than 3000 Turkeys in the Centre is due to bird flu.The X5N1 influenza has been found in the birds, and a radius of one kilometer around the Centre has been declared as infected zone. 25 teams of Rapid Response teams are deployed in the 10 kms radius to check traces of the virus in other birds.Forest department has also been alerted to watch any change in the migratory birds and crows.The Principal Secretary in Animal Husbandry department Arvind Jannu said culling is already done in the Centre and the 150 acre premises disinfected.Check posts are created to check movement of paultry from the infected zone to other places and sale of poultry and meat banned.The public are cautioned to alert the department, in case there are incidents of dead birds located in their areas.
