In Assam, culling of birds in Avian flu affected Dhubri district has started on Saturday evening. The Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri, Sunil Dutta said that outbreak of bird flu was confirmed after blood samples and carcasses were sent for testing to laboratories. He said that so far culling of 30 thousand birds in 14 villages at Agomoni area bordering Bangladesh, has been ordered. It is likely to be completed within three days. Compensation to over three thousand families will be given in the first round of the culling. A high level veterinary team has already been reached in the district from Guwahati to monitor the situation.The district administration with the help of health department, has launched awareness drive in the district to prevent the spread of the disease. There are no reports yet of bird flu spreading to other districts of the state.
