The Minister of State for External affairs Mr Sashi Tharoor says Bangladesh-India-Myanmar-Srilanka-Thailand, BIMSTEC countries are going to play key role in the development of the north eastern region in India. <br/><br/>He said the Ministry of External Affairs has over the past couple of years embarked on a vigorous out rich programme as part of its public diplomacy efforts for building strong socio-economic corporation among the BIMSTEC countries. <br/><br/>He said it is essential on the part of India to revitalise the role of Bangladesh-India-Myanmar-SriLanka-Thailand Economic Corporation,(BIMSTEC) for the economic development in the north eastern region . <br/><br/>The External Affairs Minister said this part of India is the bridge between two sub regions of Asia – South Asia and South East Asia. Addressing a two day international seminar on ‘from land lucked to land linked: North East India in BIMSTEC’ today in North East Hills University (NEHU) in Shillong ,the external affairs minister said both region are in the midst of tremendous change spurred by economic growth and development. <br/><br/>He said of the available opportunities in this part of the country should not only bridge the geographical factor but also the human resource of north east should be bridged with the BIMSTEC countries. <br/><br/>This seminar was attended by Ambassador from Thailand, Myanmar and foreign diplomats, representatives from MEA. <br/><br/>The minister said by integrating this region through cross boarder market access, the north eastern state can become the bridge between the Indian economy and the most dynamic region in the world.<br/><br/>Though the north east might be land lucked but it is the doorway to south east and East Asia and vice versa a doorways to these economies in India. <br/>
