Bill to regulate infrastructure sector on anvil

A new bill to regulate the infrastructure sector is on the anvil. A draft has already been prepared by the Planning Commission. The new bill is expected to be introduced in Parliament soon. This was revealed by Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia in New Delhi today. He said that the bill is important to put in place an independent regulatory mechanism to look into the Public Private Partnerships in the infrastructure sector.The bill covers electricity, oil, gas and coal, tele-communications, broadcasting and cable , airports, ports, inland waterways, railways, highways, and water supply among other sectors.
