A bill to develop and regulate foreign trade by facilitating imports into the country was introduced in the Rajya Sabha by the Commerce and Industry Minister Mr. Anand Sharma today. The Foreign trade Amendment Bill 2009 replaces a similar bill introduced in 2001. The legislation also provides for augmenting exports from India and to impose quantitative restrictions as a safe guard measures to provide the domestic industry a level playing field.
