A Bill to amend that Jharkhand Panchayati Raj act 2001 was today introduced in the Lok Sabha. The amendment is necessary to incorporate the provision for 50 percent reservation of seats and offices of chairpersons for women. The Panchayati Raj elections could not be held in 2005 because of various reasons including legal wrangles. The bill seeks to replace the ordinance which was earlier promulgated by the Governor.
