Bilateral & peaceful means only option to solve boundary question with China: Nirupama Rao

India says that the boundary question with China has to be resolved through bilateral understanding and peaceful means.
In an exclusive interview to All India Radio, the Foreign Secretary Mrs. Nirupama Rao said that there is a mechanism of special representatives in place adopted by both the governments on the issue. Thirteen round of such discussions have been held so far. Admitting that it is a complex issue, she noted that there exist some conceptual differences on the territorial issue which need to be bridged with more focussed efforts from both the sides.
Our correspondent reports the foreign secretary's statement becomes very significant in the wake of the fact that India has expressed disappointment over China's protest against Indian leadership visiting Arunachal Pradesh, whose ownership is disputed by Beijing. The external affairs ministry has rubbished the Chinese claim by maintaining that the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh, which borders Tibet, is an integral and inalienable part of India and its people are proud participants in the mainstream of India's vibrant democracy.
