Bilateral defence relations: Naik calls on Lankan Prez

Air Chief Marshal P V Naik , who is on a four day visit to Sri Lanka to strengthen defence ties, on Tuesday called on the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and discussed issues relating to bilateral defence relations. Earlier in the day the Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief called on the Sri Lankan Prime Minister D M Jayaratne and the External Affairs Minister G L Peires .Besides meeting with the Sri Lankan Army and the Navy Chief, Air Chief Marshall Naik also had very useful interaction with country’s powerful Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa , who is also the brother of the Sri Lankan President.Before leaving for India on Wednesday, he will also visit Sri Lanka Air Force base at Katunayake, the home of Sri Lanka's fighter jet squadron.
