When the world is beset by the menace of pollution a mini revolution is taking place in the country side of Bihar .Rice husk considered to be a waste product has proved to be a blessings in disguise for the villagers who are producing rice husk powered electricity. The rice husk is burnt before being filtered inside the Gasifier plant, which gradually transforms into gas for electricity. The process is called gasification. 'Husk Power System has been designed by local entrepreneur. AIR correspondent reports that over 200 power starved villages have been illuminated through biomass gasifiers.Gasifier plants have been installed in Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi East and West Champaran to produce electricity from rice husk. A cold storage at Lagurao Bilandpur village in Vaishali district is running on electricity produced from rice husk.Since the storage is being run on the power produced by burning rice husk, the cost of consumption is reduced considerably. The baseline price is Rs 80 per month for two CFL bulbs and facility of mobile charging per month. Users get discount as they purchase more than 100 watt electricityThe state government has decided to attach a rice mill and a composite system to gasifiers so that during the day, rice mill can operate and at night, electricity will be provided to the people for their consumption. With this revolution, deficiency of energy is Bihar can be met and farmers will also be benefited. 2000 PACS will be connected to this system.
