In Bihar, amidst tight security arrangements the fifth phase of Panchayat elections at 842 Gram Panchayats in 51 blocks is progressing peacefully.Polling will continue till 5 in the evening. In the Naxal affected areas, polling will end at 3 pm.AIR Patna correspondent reports that no incident of violence has so far been reported from any parts of the state. Moderate turnout of voters is reported due to the intense heat. In Araria, one presiding officer has been arrested on charges of irregularities in the conduct of elections.Three cane bombs were recovered from Sheohar district of the state. Over three hundred persons have been arrested as a preventive measure. A Zila Parishad candidate and a Mukhia candidate have also been arrested . More than one lakh seventy thousand rupees were seized from the possession of arrested persons. Over 49 lakhs 55 thousand voters will decide the fate of 85 thousand 403 candidates. The Panchayat elections will conclude on May 18 after the remaining five more phases. The sixth phase of elections will be held on the 6th of this month.
