Bihar grapples with flooded Ganga, PM takes stock of situation

Around 135 houses were washed away today due to erosion in river Ganga while 20 villages were submerged in flood water with the rising water level of the river having crossed the extreme danger level in Malda district. <br/><br/>Govt. sources said 135 houses in Bin nager have been washed away by the Ganga and roads are also affected due to the flooding. The Ganga was flowing 23 cm above the extreme danger level. The badly affected areas are Kalichak Manikchak and Ratua Block .<br/><br/>Meanwhile Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of prevailing flood situation in Bihar. Mr. Modi today held discussion with Chief Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh about ongoing relief and rescue operations in the state. <br/><br/>Sources said Mr. Singh apprised about steps being taken for flood victims. Prime Minister assured all possible help in the mitigation of flood furry in the state. Our Correspondent reports that flood situation is still grim in 12 districts. <br/><br/>According to central water Commission Ganga, Sone and Punpun are flowing above danger marks at several places. Ganga, Bagmati and Kosi are maintaining rising trend at several places. Death toll in flood related incidents has gone upto 33. Electricity supply has been cut in over five hundred villages since last five days in flood affected areas due to flood. <br/><br/>Transformers have been submerged in flood waters. People who are surrounded with water are facing hardships due to darkness.
