The Bihar government today launched an intensive drive to arrest persons involved in bungling and looting the funds of the Indira Awas Yojana for the poors in the state. The move follows alleged suicide by five members of a family who were fed up with the demand for bribe in the allotment of a house under Indira Awas Yojana in Aurangabad district recently. State Director General of Police, Mr. Neelmani told AIR that the drive against touts and middlemen would be completed within a week. He said that the public can also inform Dy SPs and SPs about the touts. AIR Patna correspondent reports that the move is aimed at weeding out touts and checks irregularities in the Indira Awas Yojana. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has called upon the people, especially those in the BPL category and eligible for such dwelling units, to inform the SPs of their respective districts whenever they are asked or forced to pay bribe by the officials. The SPs have been instructed to take swift action on such complaints. They have also been instructed to ensure hundred per cent success in the drive. Police said that 401 cases of Indira Awas Yojana have been registered so far. 566 persons have been arrested and chargesheet has been submitted in 181 cases.
