The Bihar government has started a scheme to provide a special grant of fifteen thousand rupees to each of the unorganized construction workers of the state. Launching the scheme Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that the special grant will cover the construction of their housing as well as to buy equipment and bicycles. AIR Patna correspondent reports that the grant is a first of its kind in any state. To avail the benefit of this scheme construction workers will have to be registered with the state government. The registration would be an one-time affair, Twenty one thousand labourers have been registered so far. Labour Resources Minister of the state Janardan Singh Sighriwal said the department would make efforts to bring all the labourers under the scheme.
