Bihar govt asked to distribute unspent money under MPLAD by June end

The Centre has asked Bihar Government to distribute the unspent money under the MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLAD) by June end. According to an official statement, 1,616 crore rupees has been released to Bihar since 1993, of which 1,392 crore rupees has been spent on creating community assets. Government has increased allocation under MPLAD scheme to 5 crore rupees from 2 crore rupees from this financial year. A recent report of the Comptroller and Auditor General had highlighted irregularities in utilisation of funds under the scheme in many states including Bihar.
