In Bihar, the flood situation has worsened following torrential rains in catchment areas of Nepal and heavy discharge of 2 lakh 15 thousand cusec of water from Gandak barrage. The water level of Gandak river is rapidly rising. In view of the deteriorating situation, people living in low lying areas have been advised to shift to higher places. Over 78 lakh people spread over 16 districts are reeling under the impact of floods. Darbhanga, by far the worst-affected district which accounts for 20 lakh people hit by the floods.<br />'' <br />''Other districts affected by the floods are Muzaffarpur, East Champaran and Khagaria districts. Darbhanga- Samastipur rail section of East Central railway remains suspended on 22nd day. 38 people have lost their lives in flood related incidents in last 24 hours. 33 teams of NDRF and SDRF are carrying out relief and rescue operations. Over five lakh 50 thousand people have been evacuated from marooned areas so far. About 13 thousand people have taken shelter in relief camps.<br />'' <br />''1,006 community kitchen centres have been set up  to provide food to affected people. Water levels of Bagmati, Gandak, Kamla Balan and Adhwara group of rivers are flowing above danger mark.
