Bihar Elections: Political parties making last-ditch efforts to woo the voters

With only one day left for campaigning for the first phase of Assembly elections in Bihar, all political parties are making last-ditch efforts to woo the voters. 47 constituencies are going to poll in this phase on Thursday. AIR correspondent reports that senior leaders including star campaigners are making whirlwind tours to mustersupport for their party candidates.Meanwhile, Congress party on Monday charged the Nitish led NDA government in Bihar with its failure to bring development in the state. Terming Nitish Kumar as an opportunist, Congress President Sonia Gandhi said that Mr. Kumar claims to have secular credentials but for the sake of power his party has made an alliance with the BJP.Mrs Gandhi asserted that congress had never compromised with communal forces and will never do it in future. Congress President Sonia alleged that crores of rupees were given by the Centre to Bihar for the welfare schemes, but the state government failed to utilize this funds. She alleged that RJD leaders are talking about the welfare of the people but they must explain what they had done to upliftment the poor people particularly the minorities during 15 years of rule. Addressing election meetings at Muzaffarpur, Senior JD ( U ) leader and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar appealed to the people to cast votes in favour of NDA candidates. During road show in Saharasa, BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi exhorted people to vote the present to speed up the development of the state. On the other hand while addressing a rally at kishangang, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad questioned that if Bihar is on the path of development, why people of the state are migrating to other states for employment and education.While canvassing for his party candidates LJP leader Ram Vilas Paswan said that Nitish government is dividing people on the caste lines. In Katihar NCP leader Tarique Anwar alleged that Nitish government has done nothing for the welfare of the miniorities.AIR correspondent reports that leaders of ruling NDA and those of opposition parties are making allegations and counter allegations on the issue of development in the state.
