Brisk polling was reported in the in the first phase of election for the Bihar Assembly polls with an estimated 45 percent voters casting their votes. 47 constituencies spread over eight districts went to polls in this phase. These districts are Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnea, Katihar, Madhepura and Saharsa.The polling which was peaceful ended at 5 P.M. In Simri Bakhtiarpur assembly constituency polling concluded at 3 pm as it is a flood affected area. Over one crore seven lakh voters will decide the electoral fortune of 631 candidates including 52 women. Important candidates whose fate was sealed in Electronic Voting Machines today are State Congress Chief Mehboob Ali Kaiser, and three state Ministers – Vijendra Prasad Yadav,Narendra Narayan Yadav and Renu Kumari.AIR Correspondent reports that elaborate security arrangements were made to ensure free and fair voting. Jawans of central para-military forces were deployed at booths to ensure peaceful, free and fair voting. The border of the state with Nepal and West Bengal were sealed to prevent any infiltration of anti social elements. Jawans of Special Task Force kept air surveillance from helicopters as well to ensure trouble free polls.
