Bihar doctors on strike

In Bihar government doctors on Tuesday went on strike in protest against killing of a doctor in Gopalganj jail by its inmates. In an emergency meeting doctors have decided to boycott all government work for 24 hours from 6 am on Tuesday to 6 am on Wednesday. State Health Minister Ashwani Kumar Choubey appealed to the doctors not to resort to strike in public interest. On the other hand the state unit of Indian Medical Association has given seven days ultimatum to meet its demands including immediate introduction of legislation to protect medical professionals of the state and compensation of 2 crore rupees to the dependent of the deceased doctor Bhudev Singh. AIR Patna Correspondent reports that the IMA also demanded speedy trial of the accused inmates and full pension of Dr. Singh to his family members.
