Bihar: Death toll in hooch tragedy in Saran district rises to 59, SIT to probe the incident

The death toll in hooch tragedy in Saran district of Bihar has risen to 59 as four more people have died. Maximum of 26 deaths have been reported from Masrakh block, while the remaining 33 casualties have been reported from Isuapur, Amnaur, and Marhaura areas of the district. Seven deaths have also been reported from Siwan and Begusarai. AIR correspondent reports many people have also lost their eyesight. Saran District Magistrate Rajesh Meena said four suppliers including 123 persons have been arrested so far.<br />'' <br />'' The Bihar government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident. The ASP of Sonepur Anjani Kumar will lead the team. The team has been instructed to inquire into all aspects of hooch tragedy. The SHO and Choukidar of Masrakah police station of Saran district have been suspended with immediate effect for dereliction of duties.<br />'' <br />'' Meanwhile, Bihar assembly witnessed a noisy scene over hooch tragedy. BJP members today disrupted proceedings in both Houses of Bihar legislature before staging a Raj Bhavan march. As soon as the House assembled, opposition members trooped into the well of the house and shouted slogans seeking resignation of the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.<br />'' <br />''The Chief Minister Nitish Kumar categorically said no compensation would be given to relatives of hooch tragedy. Mr. Kumar said the government is adamant for prohibition and reiterated that stern action will be taken against those persons responsible for the hooch tragedy and nobody will be spared.
