Bihar CM Nitish elected as president of Janata Dal (United)

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been elected as president of Janata Dal (United). Election took place in National Council Meeting of the party held in New Delhi today. Mr Kumar will replace Sharad Yadav who declined to contest for the fourth consecutive term. <br/><br/>Mr Yadav, who is one of the founder leaders of the party along with Mr Kumar, had helmed the party since 2006. He was re-elected for a third term in 2013 by amending the party's constitution which then allowed a maximum of two tenures.<br/>AIR correspondent reports that elections in several states had delayed the organisational polls of the party and it recently conveyed to the Election Commission that it will complete the process by June 30.
