The Bihar government has started process for appointment of Lokpals in the state to oversee the discrepancies in MNREGA wage distribution system in the state. This step is being taken to curb embezzlement in the implementation of MNREGA funds in the state. Rural Development Minister of the State Nitish Mishra told AIR that the government has short listed Lokpals in twelve districts of the state.The names of proposed Lokpals have been put on the website for public scrutiny about their antecedents and integrity. After such public scrutiny the spotless proposed Lokpals will be appointed.Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has already made an announced of appointing Lokpal in all the districts of the state within the month of November.Recently many serious violations and cases of deliberate embezzlement of funds have been coming to the notice of the union ministry of Rural development from various states in implementing the MNREGA funds.Earlier Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had announced that the office of the Chief Minister will be brought under the purview of the Lokpal in the state to make it more effective. Mr. Kumar said an amendment to this effect in the present Lokpal Bill will be introduced in the winter session of the state Assembly.
