Bihar: 32 killed in stampede at Dussherra event in Patna

In Bihar, 32 people have been killed during stampede after the burning of effigies of Ravan Kumbakaran and Meghnath at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Friday evening. This was told by Director General of Pollice, A.K. Thakur to AIR correspondent.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the Bihar Chief Minister to enquire about the stampede. He sanctioned two lakh rupees each for the next of those killed. State Government also announced three lakh rupees each for the next of those killed.

District Magistrate, Patna told AIR that amongst the dead, there were 5-6 children and around 20 women. He also told that around 15 people were injured and were being treated at a local hospital.

The incident happened at the Exhibition Road area near Gandhi Maidan in the heart of the city, as some people in the crowd started jostling with each other to move forward, eye witnesses said.
