Bihar: 18 persons killed train-jeet collision

In Bihar, 18 people were killed when Jaya Nagar bound Garib Rath Express hit a bolero jeep at an unmanned railway crossing in Madhubani district this afternoon. Those killed included 10 women and 8 children. The accident occurred near Mangarpatti Railway halt. The victims were on their way to participate in the victory procession of a candidate who was elected as the head of a local village. The train was coming from New Delhi and going to Jaya Nagar. Injured persons have been admitted to hospital for treatment. Expressing grief over the tragic incident ,Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs.1,50,000/-to the next of the kin of the deceased. Mr Kumar said, the state government will bear the cost of treatment of the injured people.
