Biden reaches Baghdad on official visit

US Vice President Joe Biden reached Baghdad on an official visit and he is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with Iraq's political leaders. According to a statement of US Army in Iraq, received by AIR, the visit signalled a desire by the United States to step deeper into a four-month political stalemate that has become a backdrop to the drawdown of American forces this summer. The statement adds that the visit is likely be seen by some through the prism of American reengagement in Iraq, and an answer to critics who say that the Obama administration has shown a lack of focus in setting policy for the United States' future relationship with Iraq. Our West Asia correspondent reports that several Iraqi political leaders have welcomed his visit, expressing hope that more robust American diplomacy could resolve the country's political paralysis. Biden's visit takes place four months after Iraq's Parliamentary election, which has produced inconclusive result. US are due to withdraw its forces and in this process vice president Biden will try to put pressure on the various political groups to reach an understanding to form a government.
