Bhutanese consulate office opened in Guwahati

A Bhutanese consulate office was opened in Guwahati today. It was jointly inaugurated by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and the Himalayan country's Foreign Affairs Minister Lyonpo Damcho Dorji.<br/><br/>After the inauguration, Mr Sonowal said, the opening of the consulate general's office will benefit the Bhutanese and North East people. He said, it will strengthen the friendship between the people of Assam and neighbouring states and Bhutan.<br/><br/>The Chief Minister said, the deep-rooted relation is evident from the fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose Bhutan for his first foreign country visit after assuming office in May 2014.<br/><br/>On the occasion, the Bhutanese Foreign Minister announced a Drukair flight between Bhutan and Singapore via Guwahati. Drukair or Royal Bhutan Airlines has been operating a periodic flight between Paro, Bhutan's only international airport, and Bangkok via Guwahati.
