Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and Bangladesh Parliament Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury are the first foreign dignitaries who arrived in New Delhi today to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the Prime Minister designate Narendra Modi. Dr Chaudhury will represent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is on a visit to Japan. Other SAARC leaders will arrive tomorrow.
Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam is also attending the ceremony to be held tomorrow evening.
Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be accompanied by his Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhary among others. Sharif will call on President Pranab Mukherjee and hold a bilateral meeting with Narendra Modi on Tuesday morning.
President Mukherjee will host a dinner in honour of foreign leaders after the swearing-in ceremony is over.
Meanwhile, elaborate arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of the swearing-in ceremony.
Joint Commissioner of Police M K Meena told reporters that More than 6000 security personnel will keep a hawk-eyed vigil even as a ground-to-air security system at par with the one placed during the Republic Day parade has been put in place for the ceremony.
Prohibitory orders have been put in place in the New Delhi district. Mobile hit teams, Special Weapons and Tactics have been deployed besides paramilitary and Delhi Police commandos to secure the area.
NSG commandos will be responsible for the inner layer of security.
AIR Correspondent reports that full air defence grid has been put in place and no airborne activity including hot air balloons would be allowed.
Delhi Police has issued traffic advisory to ensure proper traffic movement to facilitate invitees to reach the venue.
General traffic will not be allowed on Rajpath, Vijay Chowk, South and North Avenue Marg, Dalhousie Road and Church Road on Monday between 4 PM and 8 PM.
Traffic will also be diverted on some other roads leading to Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Offices housed in North and South Blocks and hutments around will be closed after 1 pm.
