King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck arrived in Dhaka on Thursday on a five- day state visit to Bangladesh. Bangladesh President Zillur Rahman received the Bhutanese King at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport when he alighted from a special aircraft of Druk Air on Thursday afternoon. King Wangchuck’s was given a guard honour on his arrival by a smartly turned out contingent of the three services of the Bangladesh armed forces. The Bhutan King is visiting Dhaka at the invitation of the Bangladesh President and will be the guest of honour during the Independence Day celebrations of the country. A 17-member delegation is accompanying the Bhutan King. During his stay in Dhaka, the King of Bhutan will hold discussions with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Abdul Hamid, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith,Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni and Commerce Minister Muhammad Faruk Khan. The Bhutanese King will also witness the children's parade on the Independence Day on March 26 at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka in addition to joining the Independence Day reception to be hosted by the President.
