Bhutan has conveyed to China that the construction of road inside its territory in Doklam area is direct violation of bilateral agreements. <br/><br/>Bhutan's Foreign Affairs Ministry in a press release, yesterday, said, the construction of road affects the process of demarcating the boundary between the two countries. <br/><br/>It expressed hopes that the pre-16th June 2017 status will be maintained in the area. Bhutan's response came following media queries about Bhutan – China boundary in Doklam area. The comments are also relevant amid reports of ongoing face-off between Indian and Chinese troops in the Doklam, also known as Donglang area of the Sikkim sector. <br/><br/>On 16th of this month, the Chinese army started construction of motorable road from Dokola in Doklam area towards Bhutan army camp at Zompleri. The press release said, boundary talks are on-going between the two sides. <br/><br/>They have written agreements, which require the two sides to maintain peace and tranquillity in their border areas pending final settlement of the boundary issue and also maintain status quo on the boundary as before March 1959. The agreements also state that the two sides will refrain from taking unilateral action or use of force to change the status quo of the boundary.
