Bhupen Hazarika gets National Cultural Award

The legendary singer and cultural icon of Assam, Dr Bhupen Hazarika was presented with the National Cultural Award at a function in Guwahati last evening. The Award, instituted by KC Das Commerce College, carries a citation, mementos, a collection of books published by the KC Das Commerce College and a cheque of one lakh rupees. Distinguished writer and the president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha Mr.Rongbong Terang gave away the award to the 84-year-old Singer. Receiving the award, Hr. Hazarika sang a few lines from his legendary songs to the applause of the jam-packed Pragjyoti Cultural Centre hall at Machkhowa in the city. A recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Sangeet-Natak Academy Ratna, Dr. Hazarika is at present spending his last part of the life in Guwahati.<br/>
