Bhopal gas tragedy: MP govt files appeal in sessions court

The Madhya Pradesh government has filed an appeal in sessions court of Bhopal against the CJM courts 7th June verdict in the Bhopal gas tragedy criminal case today. In its petition, the state government has requested that the sentences given to all accused under different sections of IPC should run separately and not concurrently. The state government has also filed a revision petition to invoke section 304 II of IPC against the accused. The court is likely to hear both the matters tomorrow. Seven accused in the Bhopal gas tragedy criminal case have also filed an appeal in the court of the District and Sessions Judge Bhopal challenging the conviction. The appeal has been filed on the ground that the accused, sentenced for two year’s imprisonment and fine over one lack rupees each under section of 304(a) of IPC, were wrongly convicted by the CJM court as they were not liable for tragedy. <br/>
