Hindustani classical Bhimsen Joshi and doyen of Indian theatre late Habib Tanvir were on Saturday honoured with life time achievement award at a function in New Delhi, by Delhi government for their extraordinary contribution in their fields. The awards, carrying a cheque of 11 lakh rupees each were given by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to relatives of Joshi and Habib. Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Dixhit said that her government was privileged to honour both of them who have significantly contributed to enrich the lives of people and the society. Tanvir was conferred with the Padma Bhushan in the year 2002 while Joshi was bestowed the Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian award, in 2008.
