The last rites of former Nepal Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, will be performed with full state honours today. The 87 year old veteran leader passed away in a hospital at Kathmandu on Friday. Nepal government has announced three-day state mourning and a public holiday today as a mark of respect to the departed leader. Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal will drape Bhattarai’s body in the national flag at Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu where general public will pay their last respects to the veteran leader. His body which was kept at his residence yesterday is being taken to the Nepali Congress headquarters in Sanepa this morning and to Dasrath Stadium later in the day. The final journey will take place though the city and last rites will be performed at Aryaghat, Pashupati Nath Temple. Bhattarai who had served twice as Prime Minister was a founder member of the Nepali Congress. Popularly known as Kishunji he was an epitome of integrity and served as Prime Minister in 1990-1991 and May 1999-March 2000. Bhattarai's first term as prime minister of the Interim Cabinet from April 1990 to May 1991 is credited for promulgating the Interim Constitution of 1990. He was forced to resign due to internal fissures in Nepali Congress while he was serving a second term from May 1999-March 2000.
