Bhatta-Parsaul: PM announces financial assistance

Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh has announced financial assistance to farmers and their family members injured during the recent incidents at Bhatta Parsaul and Acchapur villages in Gautam Budh Nagar of Uttar Pradesh. Those seriously injured will receive 50,000 rupees each while people with minor injuries will be given 10,000. Our correspondent reports that the decision to give financial assistance comes in the wake of the Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi meeting the Prime minister, with a farmers' delegation and apprising him of the situation in these villages. Meanwhile, the Union minister for State for Information Technology Sachin Pilot was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police this afternoon while on his way to Bhatta-Parsaul villages in neighboring Gautam Buddha Nagar district. Our Lucknow correspondent reports that the Minister was going to meet families of farmers injured in clashes with the police during the recent agitation on land acquisition. Our correspondent reports that Mr. Pilot, arrested by the police on National Highway 24 was later released. Before rushing to the villages Mr. Pilot also met farmers lodged in Dasna jail since the agitation. More than one hundred farmers were detained yesterday near district magistrate office in Gautam Buddha Nagar district while taking out a silent march to the villages in Bhatta Parsaul. They were protesting against the land acquisition from farmers and alleged police atrocities against villagers during recent farmer’s agitation in which four persons were killed in clashes between police and protestors. The farmers were taken to the police line and released later.
