In Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court today directed the state government to set up a high powered committee to monitor probe by CB CID into the alleged rape of women in Bhatta and Parsaul villages in Gautam Buddha Nagar district by policemen during farmer's agitation over the land acquisitions. The committee will consist of four members.AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that a division bench of the court comprising Justice Imtiaz Murtaza and Justice VK Dixit passed this order while hearing a petition seeking CBI probe into the incident. The court said that CB CID should continue its probe and progress report should be filed to the court after 4 months. Violent clashes between farmers and NOIDA police in May last year had also claimed the lives of two farmers and two policemen.Earlier, the court had reserved its judgment on January 16 this year.
